Have you installed the wacom-tools?
I use a Synaptics touchpad and I know the Synaptics tool works quite well
for me both in Ubuntu Feisty and Slackware -current. I would assume the
wacom tool is just as effective.
You might consider upgrading to Ubuntu Feisty.
