So, I need a CAD program, and can't afford to pay the $1 million cost. But
I can get 1,000 people who have the same need to each spend $1,000 each for
the program. Should we be denied the CAD program we need because none of us
can afford the full cost?

Sure, if I _could_ get everyone to pitch in the $1,000 and pay for the
development, that might seem to work, but not if a bunch of them realize
that they could save their money and wait for the 'free' version. Now we
have a chicken and egg situation.

But if some investors pay the development cost, and sell the app for $1,000
per copy, then I get my app - as does everyone who needs it. This solves a
need and advances society. Sure I'd rather have an open source app, but if
I can't get that, I'd rather have a commercial application than none at all.

I think it's cool that you choose to be paid by the hour, but I think that
this is something that every person must choose for himself. It's not a bad
thing for all these different options exist.
