This echoes what I said several months ago. List membership is also
down. Moreover, the list content contains *far* fewer newbie questions
than it used to. Postings are sparse (except for political threads), and
most of what we get are edge cases on the list. Thinks like my GeeWhiz
XYZ123 router doesn't seem to work with the latest version of
FillInTheBlank Linux.

I don't have any better answers than Bill does. Linux is easier and more
widespread than it used to be. Answers are easier to come by than they
were years ago when we started. Google is your friend. There are
probably more mainstream users using it, and fewer geeks (relative to
total Linux use).

Where others may see this as a crisis or a problem, I don't. Linux has
matured tremendously in the years since SLUG started. That's a good
thing. If that means we have 4 or 5 meetings (or even 1) instead of 6
per month, that's okay. We're still here to help and provide a way for
those interested in Linux to come together. The website and list are
still here, and there are still some diehard meeting locations going.

And of course, you're welcome to imitate the folks in Sarasota who have
the occasional get-together meeting outside the regular SLUG meetings.
(You don't have to imitate their drunken brawling, though. ;-)
