In the past I have had problems with k3b if I moved or changed CDROM/CDRWs around after initial k3b setup. Even though some parts of k3b worked, other parts would not. My troubleshooting path would be.

1. Check "ALL" device jumpers.

2. Ensure BIOS is set to "auto detect" devices.

3. Completely remove and then install k3b. Test.

4. Test with a live CD distro so k3b will have 100% fresh hardware configuration info.

5. If the problem persist, put the DVD recorder on your second IDE port all by itself and repeat steps 1-4 above.

Note: Regardless of port, I set my hard drives to master and my ATAPI devices to slave. Then write from my port 1 master or slave to my port 2 slave ATAPI device. Reading from one channel and writing to another has worked best for me. Mixing fast and slow devices on a channel does not degrade throughput in instances where you are only using one device at a time per channel.
