I had my wife running OPENSUSE 10.0 and maintaining it for over
a year on a Pentium II 350 with 256M of ram. She used Firefox and
Thunderbird. She had a KDE desktop. You can use Gnome too.
Personally I use KMAIL text mode as probably the most secure mail program.
You don't have to install but a small fraction of what is on the 6 CD's you
download.
OPENSUSE is very prompt with security updates and can be set up on the toolbar
to tell you as soon as they are available. It will ask for the root password
before it will let you update.
