[SLUG] Yet Another Hardware thread

Folks:

Time once again for the obligatory "What kind of PC should I buy?" thread.

Finding up-to-date recommendations on components which are
Linux-friendly is devilishly hard, so I thought perhaps I'd ask people
closer to home.

I have an ATX case with a 400W PS in it, and an IDE hard drive with all
my data on it, and a DVD drive. Here's what I want:

motherboard
1G memory (DDR2)
video card with DVI output (PCI Express)
support for SATA and IDE drives
support for floppy
2-4GHz processor, 32 bit
on-board sound, USB, etc. (the usual, these days)

Specific parts recommendations would be nice. One thing to note: I've
been fighting with ASUS over a motherboard RMA, and found that the
memory I was using, although it worked for over a year, when replaced
with memory which was "blessed" by ASUS, now does not need to be RMA'd.
So apparently, the memory has to be the exact match for the motherboard.
Who knew? (Not me.)

Anyone have suggestions?

Paul
