If you can find an older SuperMicro you can might get all the way up to 64G.
These are server grade computers with massive mother boards. They have been
around for some time so I would imagine there should be a second hand market.

They are US made servers that mostly utilize chipsets from Intel.

You can of course always Google for motherboard 8G RAM... :)
