Yeah, when you use the camera's (Windows, natch) software to shoot images,
it has a live preview. So the hardware is obviously capable of taking a
live image and passing it over USB on demand. But nobody's figured out how
yet (well, someone has, and it'll cost $25, TYVM), and Canon isn't saying
for less than the price of the SDK.
