"vmstat 1" will give you details about i/o (not just network i/o),
swapping, etc. It will also give you the CPU usage, similar to "top",
but I have often seen it give good information where "top" is obviously
incorrect.

The "1" parameter is to update every one seconds. You can use whatever
value you like, but just like "top", the first value can't be trusted
(usually pretty whacky) since it will be an incomplete period.
