i have seen issues exactly like that with a failing printer. try
removing all the usb connections from the pc, including hubs. and see
if it will boot usb back on after that. then one by one connect
everything back. a sometimes it will post with everything plugged back
in. i would asume it is the printer in this case because of the odd
stuff it was giving you. sorry if this is late. just came back from
vacation.
