[SLUG] two-fer: ibook and TVout

I'm a newbie and have two problems.

1) I'm trying to use an old ibook for couch surfing, nothing heavy duty,
read email, watch weather radar. The original OS9 is like running in sand
and I don't want to pay for OSX, which wouldn't run on this machine anyway.
So I installed Yellow Dog Linux and it works but is still pretty slow. And
these days, to view most Web sites, you need some flash or other goodies,
which are not part of the included Firefox 1 and, to date, beyond me to
install.

2) I've got a desktop machine that is hooked up to a TV for a monitor so my
child can play games. Works fine in W2K, but when I try to run Mepis as a
live CD, I get this weird initialization request to do with resolution. Lots
of options, none of which make sense to me. I tried a couple, but I end up
with snow on the screen. And the Mepis works find when I have a regular
monitor, but not with this Nvidia video card's TV out (S video).

2b) I also tried to set this machine up as dual boot, using the old monitor,
with Mepis fully installed on a secondary HD, but it hiccuped on the MBR and
I couldn't get it to boot into anything. I don't know a clean way to fix
this, but if I do, I still will probably have the same video problem with
the TV out.

Any simple solutions? Happy to take them off line.

Thanks in advance,
