Hey Eben,
Hubs are deprecated. You probably won't find them anymore (ebay of
course). The reason being is that they are merely simple repeaters. A
frame seen on one port is repeated to every port on the device. They
also can only utilize half duplex operation
A switch learns all the MAC address that are connected to it. If a frame
enters a switch with a destination MAC address located on that switch,
it will be sent to that port. All other ports on the device won't see
that frame.
Personally I like Netgear prosafe products. Their consumer grade stuff
has been very reliable and well built IMO.
Also... spend a couple more bucks and go gigabit.
