Any of the customers of that old hosting provider will continue to get
authorative responses from that hosting provider's hosted zones.
Until you can get them to stop hosting your zone, any of their
customers will not be able to contact you.
Anyone _else_ on the planet (the rest of the lucky public that are not
tied to that defunct/dying hosting provider) should only reference the
root name servers and your new DNS server zone which does point to the
correct place.
