I see you set up with Siteground, a so-called Joomla friendly
hostingsolution.They
do not have the greatest response time and the servers
are not particularly fast, but they are reliable. I hope you don't have
your domain registered with them. Even though they offer a "free domain"
with
hosting expect problems when you try to move. It is better to work
with them and have an independent domain. They tried to charge me
$150 to release a domain.

Their Joomla support is only for their automatic install program. They
use a version of Joomla that is usually a couple versions behind, as
well have having an older PHP and MySQL configuration. There pricing
is right and they will have you up and running with one of their many
automatic install packages.

I tried them for a couple years because the were "Joomla Hosting".
After being active with the Joomla Forum and keeping up with
the Joomla Developers, I found they give NOTHING back to Joomla
Source Community. (They do offer basic Joomla templates with your Joomla
hosting package ) When questioned about a real Joomla problem, they
responded and said the do not help with Joomla problems and referred
me to the Joomla Source and SourceForge. Even though the problem was
their server configuration, they passed me onto the Joomla Site. I
later contacted them and told them what needed to be done and they
complied.

Since you are using it as temporary election hosting site, I am sure it will
do
the job for your intended purposes.

If you use a domain with them, be sure to keep your own records current.
They failed to send me a notice on one domain expiration and gouged me
when I tried to renew the domain.

I think your Tech Guy chose Siteground for it's "Joomla Friendly" claims,
which certainly makes doing an install easy. Nothing wrong with that, but
choosing a long-term hosting provider has a meet a long list of
requirements for them to become a permanent home. I see they are
now claiming to be the "Drupal Hosting Solution" and say they are
big DRUPAL supporters. Even though they claim they are now
a DRUPAL hosting solution, it appears they are just moving from
one marketing target audience to another.

I don't get a real warm and fuzzy feeling when a hosting package
doesn't tell me anything about their server configuration options,
routing and backbone support and other server status information
up front. When I had problems with accessing one of my sites with
them, I had a wait for the tech support rather than going to a panel
and see the server status.

Their ratings didn't turn out too bad:

Again, some of these rating systems are suspect.
