There is *no* special software needed. You connect to a high speed
modem, just like with DSL. My guy as well had his own laptop to do this
stuff.
I suspect Verizon would like to install some geewhiz crap on your
browser so they can give you some sort of niftykewl services via the
web. But if so, it's optional.
