Exactly my problem, too. I guess you could manually download the svga
server package...OTOH, you could run anXious (note the capitalization)
and perhaps it will get you going. Of course, that hasn't worked for me,
either.

As for X 4.0, you could add this line to your apt.sources list:
deb http://people.debian.org/%7Ebranden/ woody/$(ARCH)/

This I got from http://people.debian.org/~branden there's a line for
potato, if it ever gets approved for it.

PS I have to reinstall because my /usr partition is too small and since
the latest discussions about partitioning my HD...
