I looked at the site you mentioned for adding KDE to potato, and they
said that the kde2 was for people who didn't want kde 2.1 but instead
wanted the older version. Is that really what you wanted to install?
 Anyway, I also checked the packages.gz file in the kde2 directory from
your apt source site, and it looked like you should use task-kde to
install the system, as Russell suggested. You can also use apt-cache to
see the kde stuff that the site has, as in

apt-cache search kde | less
