I used to build phone networks (on a limited scale) for customers. We had
this joke which was that when Ma Bell got broken up, the engineers that
nobody wanted, went to GTE.

Verizon is a questionable, yet well entrenched company. Though they are well
known for sabotaging connections to "show" leaving customers that their new
provider is bad. In other words they would mess up the port to the new LEC,
saying it was their doing. Stuff like that.

Verizon signed this contract to deal with an outfit in Texas for their DSL
services and they STINK! But it was Verizon who picked them so it shows how
poor they know the data business.

It's routine (about 30% in my experience) to find them saying a new service
is up when you don't even have a dial tone. It was true in LA and it's true
here.

As far as 3Com goes I'd never switch when it comes to a professional setup.
The extra cost per NIC is well worth the no question life time warranty and
the instant good service they provide. Never mind the high quality.
