[SLUG] Sarasota/Bradenton Meeting/Gathering

From: Robin 'Roblimo' Miller (robin@roblimo.com)
Date: Sun Apr 21 2002 - 13:53:33 EDT

At 7 p.m. this Tuesday and, if desired by enough others, also on the
fourth Tuesday in May, I will host an open house -- at my house in
Bradenton -- for those who wish to come, hang out, shoot the bleep, help
each other with installs and problems, etc.

Hopefully, some sort of consensus will emerge about where future, more
formal Sarasota - Bradenton - Venice meetings can/should be held.
Compromises will be made, and not everyone will be happy. This is one of
the evils of democracy -- or anarchy. :)

Best long run = find a permanent meeting moderator who's almost always
around, who doesn't travel or wander as much as Mike or I. Perhaps
Penguin Development in Venice will be the consensus choice. Fine with me
and, I suspect, other Bradenton residents; Venice isn't *that* far; at
the worst we'll see a slight geographic realignment for Bradenton and
Palmetto people, some of whom may choose the Brandon meetings. I can get
to the Barnes & Noble in Brandon from my place in 43 minutes without
speeding more than seems to be customary on Rt. 75.

Meanwhile, this Tuesday (and possibly a month from) at my place. Bring
favored beverages or snacks if you're in mood, although we will almost
certainly overbuy sodas/juice/munchies so if you don't bring any, don't
worry about it. There will be more than enough to go around.

(Someone might want to change meeting location on the Web site to avoid
confusion, BTW.)

We will not have a timeclock at the door. If you show up a little before
7 p.m., cool. A little late, ditto.

Facilities = seating for ~8 people, maybe 12 - 15 if some are on the
patio/carport and/or the sunporch. More than 8 show up, it's a party,
not a meeting.

Connectivity = open (for that evening at least) 802.11b wireless
network, CAT-5 connections in living room only. DHCP server works fine
with all Linux variants we've tried, is cool with Mac. No Windows, please.

Agenda = freeform. Bring a question, an answer, an idea, a friend or
lover, a beer, a soda, software you want to share, a favorite music CD,
an open mind. (Please leave strong religious/political opinions at home.)

How to get here:

Address = 206 52nd Ave. W, Bradenton FL 34207

-----------------------------

Directions from Rt. 41:

Go West on 53rd Ave (it's also SR 70) to 5th St. W.

Turn Left/North from 53rd Ave onto 5th St. West (big green sign;
traffic light), very shortly turn right (East) on 52nd Ave. *Do not get
confused by 52nd Ave Terrace or 52nd Ave Blvd; you want the real, pure,
simple 52nd Ave.*

----------------------------

Directions from I-75:

Take SR 70 exit West. It will become 53rd Ave. Turn Turn Right/North
from 53rd Ave onto 5th St. West (big green sign; traffic light), very
shortly turn right (East) on 52nd Ave. *Do not get confused by 52nd Ave
Terrace or 52nd Ave Blvd; you want the real, pure, simple 52nd Ave.*

--------------------------

When you see the address "206" (on the right) you are here. Identifiers
besides number "206" are bright blue Jeep Cherokee and light blue
sailboat in driveway/carport, "Miller" on the mailbox, solar-powered
patio lights at end of driveway. Park on the street. It's legal as
long as you don't block our neighbors' driveways.

Hope to see you here!
