I would argue there is a distinct difference between getting a college
degree and a getting a Microsoft, Red Hat, Novell, etc. certification.
You are oversimplifying the time and effort involved in going to medical
school or a reputable 4 year college. I don't believe your reasonably
average person takes 4 years (or more for medical school) to get any of
the aforementioned certifications. Personally, my college education
consisted of a lot more than one large multiple choice test. I can't
speak for any else's higher education.
