The same is true for xine, mplayer, vlc, lamp, and a few others.
My favorite is xine, but mplayer has served well from time to time.
The key is really gathering the full list of win32 codecs for the
avifile library to use.
Realplayer G2 runs well natively in linux.
As for QuickTime, there's always the crossover plugin for the time
being.
Video with xmms just seems odd to me ;)
