I'm talking about the next version of Debian, due out Real Soon Now
(tm). From what I understand, they're borrowing code from Progeny for
their installer. I could be wrong, but it seems like that's what I've
heard.

I don't know if the autodetect stuff is true in the upcoming version of
Debian. However, I agree that the Debian install of the past is not for
the faint of heart or the newbie. I reserve judgment on their install
until I see the next version come out. In fact, though I love Debian, I
reserve judgment on the whole distro until I see them speed up their
upgrade cycle. 1-1/2 to 2 years between major releases is _far_ too
long.
