Nice laptop! My company sells an IBM Mainframe emulator that runs in
linux on this laptop.
I haven't had any problems with the serial port, other than the fact
that it is turned OFF in the bios by default. Forgive me, if you already
checked this, but it sounds exactly like a mistake I would make
