Andrew Wyatt......is my hero.....running Xconfigurator fixed me up...
Note: I culd not find any DefaultMode in XF86Config...oh well..on to
screwing up something else......
I really do not know what caused this!!!must have been a micosoft programmer
worked on X11 a little bit.

Run Xconfigurator again, OR edit /etc/X11/XF86Config and change the
DefaultMode lines to 16. There may already be a backup file containing
your original XF86Config settings in the same folder, it seems to me
that your XF86Config was somehow modified. This is definately not a
reinstall problem though. ;-)
