Hmm, are you positive that postfix is actually running? What does `ps -ef | grep postfix` show? BTW, I've got a similar setup - Postfix + Courier-IMAP + Sqwebmail (I recently switched from Squirrelmail), and I use apt to update them regularly. It seems, though, that if the port is open and postfix is running, it should at least respond on port 25, even if there's some confusion about the FQDN.
