   vmlinuz is already compressed and there would be no way to
uncompress it at boot time. (It uncompresses it's self.)

  Sure, recompile it (or select another pre-compresssed one) without

everything that you don't need at boot time. Drop ALL of the SCSI,

ethernet etc. drivers you do not need to boot with. Add the drivers

from another floppy if you need to have them to operate.
