I agree with the suggestions given. When connecting from a remote
Windows box to a Linux firewall at home, putty and WinSCP work well.
Some suggestions (maybe obvious):
Use a key with a pass phrase.
Generate the passphrase on the Win box with puttygen.
Copy the key to the Linux box using sneakernet (diskette).
For new accounts on the Linux box, login locally from the console at
least once before using the remote login.
Persist
