You can mount an NTFS read-only. This should be well supported by your
kernel. Mounting it read-write is possible, but lables EXPERIMENTAL. I
was strongly sugguest not using this if you vlaue the data on that
partition.

Subject: [SLUG] mounting an NTFS from linux

first- my extensive research:
http://www.linuxworld.com/linuxworld/lw-2001-01/lw-01-legacy.html

Anyone know of a kernel issue with mounting an NTFS
partition using RedHat 7.1, (I believe the kernel
version for that distro is 2.4)?

Now, on another note, I consider the mount command to
be a utility and possibly not a part of the kernel,
but rather belonging to the OS, so possibly I am
looking at this wrong and should be concentrating
specifically on red hat's packaging of the kernel
alongside other software, (i.e. a bug with RedHat 7.1
that would be solved with an upgrade to 7.2).
