It sounds like it is working OK. High five! I don't think anything is
technically broken by disabling DRI. it enables hardware 3d
acceleration in the cards that DRI supports.

All of my experiences with DRI have been pretty iff-y at best. Either
my motherboard was causing crashes or my card wasn't supported, or
the card was supported but I had to go download a patch somewhere and
recompile the kernel. Heh.. At one time I had it so that X would start
and the screen would go completely wacko, then the power supply would
sound like it is being drained, then the computer would reboot. That's
the last I saw of DRI!

Legend has it, though, that once it is working properly it
will increase 3d framerate by like 600+%, depending on the card's
capabilities.

I don't think it will affect 2d speed.
