To test your ethernet card in all os's
You can tell if it is working by simply doing a ping 127.0.0.1
If the packets comeback like 4 sent 4 recieved then it is working fine.
Then it will be an issue with the configuration!

The ping 127.0.0.1 is a internal loopback simulating an connection and then
verifying that is both sending and recieving 4 packets of information to
make sure that
is indeed working.
