If it's truly because bash is being swapped out, then:
- make whatever process is grabbing lots of RAM not do it (reconfigure,
  kill, whatever); or
- get more RAM (it's cheap); or
- don't run so many memory-intensive processes (run top, hit M to see top
  memory users); or
- run without swap, which is the "nuclear weapon to kill a fly" approach.
