Best PC emulator in Windows I've seen is Connectix' Virtual PC.
Unfortunately, Microsoft bought out the technology and released the next
version (Virtual PC 2004), which (a) will only run in Windows 2000 or XP
Professional [not XP Home!], and (b) runs much slower and with much more
difficulty than Connectix' VPC 5.2, at least in Windows; might be
different in MacOS.

My suggestion would be, if you've got a smokin' Mac, to use Virtual PC and
run an x86 Linux distro on it.
