Thanks, that worked. It's the first one in a dozen or more to boot all
the way. LILO died on most of the rest, or the installed failed at
various places, or...

Anyhow, do you have any idea how I would get GCC on here? I have nearly
300 MB left on the volume, so space shouldn't be an issue.
