Pete, what output do you get, when, as root, at the command line, with a
formatted disk in the floppy drive, you type:
mount /dev/floppy
if that works, copy a file from the desktop to the drive. please also post
output also:
cp /home/your_username_here/Desktop/some_file_on_your_desktop_here /mnt/floppy
