Not without a special adapter to substitute for the POTS line that's
normally between the two PCs if you're connecting via modem, unless
you're doing a manual answer. You need some kind of crossover for the
phone wire to go from the Tx port of the originating modem to the Tx
port of the receiving modem, otherwise you're just going striaght
pin-to-pin and going nowhere.

Best way to do what you're doing is not with a modem, but with two
network cards and a crossover adapter or cable, or, if they both have
USB, you can pick up a USB sync cable from Radio Shack for about $30
that will create a mini USB network between the two systems.
