Russ,
You have to have a yaboot partition and it is onlysomething like 800k in size.
If you still have mac OS 9 or older installed you have to leave all the
drivers installed but if you are going to run OS X then they arent necessary,
plus if you have no intention of running any mac OS they they are not
necessary either.
In Apple terminology you have an "old world" unit, anything from a G3 B&W up
is considered "new world". I know that the beige will run both OSX and Linux
so all you really have to do is select which (or both) you want to run and
ensure that the HDD is large enough. Thats the problem most people have with
installs, the drives dont have enough room.
The mac OS X (unix) takes up to 3 gigs for complete install and YD needs
something like 1.5 gigs for complete(if I remember right). I think that the
problem would be memory and HDD size, and as long as both are large enough
then you shouldnt have a problem.
There are a few Linux distros out for the mac so dont consuider yourself
restricted to YD. Be aware that ones like unbuntu write the mbr and are good
for the new world boxes only. I right recommend that you do a little
"exploring/research" before you decide on a distro but know that the mac will
run faster with Linux on it(or OS X). If I can help let me know and I will
try but I am no expert by any means.

A J
