There is a number of contributing factors with these upgrades and it all
boils done to two things.

A. Bios ( which has already been discussed)
B. Northbridge Chipset of the motherboard.

You will probably run into a problem with the chipset not supporting
such a fast cpu. There are some exceptions, like a socket 370 board
with the famouse Intel 440BX2 chipset ran the guanlet with support for
the p3- 500mhz 1.2ghz (on most boards)

The easiest solution is open up the pc you want to upgrade pulling off
the make and mod of the motherboard ( assuming it not a OEM board) and
pulling the manual for it off the manufactures site also reading bios
flash notes as if there were updates to the bios to allow faster
processors the engineers put it in the bios rev history.
