Hi all:
I have been having a fit installing Mandrake 10.1 (CD's from down loaded ISO images)
for some time. Won't fit on a 2 gig drive, won't boot off of a SCSI. (8.4 gig drive)
So I just installed it on a HP "netserver E60" with a 20 gig drive and 64 megs of RAM.
It said: you have limited resources (the first time I have seen this related to LINUX)
so it only installed the X system and a virtual console, not gnome or it's programs.
It never asked for the second (or third) disk.
I checked everything on the left column except for "game console" and on the right only
gnome, no servers kde or "other". (Mandrake users should understand what this "install
selection" stuff is)
I have wasted much time on the Mandriva web site and I have found no reference to any
minimum requirements, especially for RAM. Does anyone have a link or other knowledge
about the minimum RAM needed for a Mandrake gnome installation?
I am a 100% Slackware LINUX USER, just a USER since 1998 and I am only dealing with
Mandrake to help a winders friend that can't swing a duck without being grounded with
virii when using winders, he loves Mandrake (especially the speed) but needs help,
he keeps loosing features, a few I can help him with, but many do not apply to Slack.
(all of the "automatic stuff" being a big problem) First it works then it doesn't!
The etc directory is so different between a BSD and a system V system I am more lost
than not, so having a mandrake system at my home would allow me to find the "init" stuff
that he is missing or mis-set. I could also send him more "original" versions of some
files for repair. Any assistance would be appreciated.
(I have winders 2000 on my desk at work and it is so slow and I have to work around all
of the M$ programming errors that my week is tiring because of it.)
