Since your problems started with the printer, maybe you need to start
there? How is the printer attached - you said network shared - but that
leaves it open as I have a network shared printer that is attached to my
server's parallel port, but it's shared with the world if you know the
IPP url. If that's the case - maybe your parallel port settings are
unsupported? Maybe you've set the printer to serial and it's parallel?
Maybe you updated and simply need to back rev the printing tools?

If everything but the printing tools work well...why do you think a new
MB would help? What changed? Have you tried a different distro since
you've been reinstalling?

Troubleshooting methodology - start with the greatest common
denominator and eliminate - one by one.
