I wouldn't mind this approach so much other than the fact that sometimes
SuSE forces a fsck on the disks if the last time it was run was more
than a certain period of days (preset). In that case the normal
allotted timeout for the next machine to boot would be too short. I'm
not sure the consistent longterm reliability of this approach would be
feasable. I think the init based service check approach mentioned by
Ian is a little more reliable.
Thanks for the suggestion though. I forgot about the grub timeout
option.
