I have not had any removable device issues ( I don't have a CF card, but a SD and smartmedia) so I would be interested to see output from udevmonitor when you plug in the device to see if it's being seen correctly.

That will give you a idea of what we were discussing with the removal
media.

I bought the box (a few weeks ago) and thought that it would be as
free of problems as 10.0 was (it did real well, most things that I fixed
were just small things as far as I can remember, all installs regardless
of the system have to be polished up, but 10.2 sort of went backwards
on the laptop (IBM Thinkpad T42) which sort of appeared to just work.

Now I find that not only does the removable media (CF and SD type
type devices) not work, but my sound does not appear to be working.
