Having not followed your issues, I'm unable to say one way or another, however SLED10 does have a lot of the additional fixes that have been put into the openSUSE 10.2 code (as of alpha3). I have not had any removable device issues ( I don't have a CF card, but a SD and smartmedia) so I would be interested to see output from udevmonitor when you plug in the device to see if it's being seen correctly.
Personally, I'd take a stab at SLED10 instead since you have a lot more than openSUSE and it's still freely downloadable.
