[SLUG] find block number?

Short:

If I have a long-running process, say "dd", is there any way to find out
which block of stdin it's reading?

Long:

I copy one drive to the other every night, and I see wildly different times
between runs. I'd like to know if these slowdowns are at a particular
block, generalized slowness, random, or what. There doesn't seem to be any
pattern to them (rough periodicity 18-30 days, but that could be an artifact
of too few samples).

I kept a spreadsheet of the runs:

the raw data.
