Lots of people like to say and/or write things like that, particularly
tech writers who, as most tech writers do (list members excluded ;),
have little grasp of the technology and processes involved, but at the
end of the day, if it wasn't for the FSF, GNU, and the GPL, most Free
software would have been corporatized, commoditized, and obsoleted
long ago.

Linus Torvalds isn't the anti-Gates. He and Gates are much the same;
they're nice, easygoing guys who do what they feel is best for their
products to succeed, even at the expense of users and/or customers.
If anyone's the anti-Gates, it's RMS: he pushes for the continued
freedom of his software even if it means that there will be a few
fewer people who choose to make use of it.
