I watched them as they put in my fiber. They lay a nylon ribbon with an
embedded copper wire along with the conduit / fiber. They ground it in
the junction box in the street. I asked them what the ribbon was for,
and he said, that's so they can find it, if they need to.

By the way, I've had FIOS for almost 2 years now, and I've loved it.
15/2 service, and only had a couple hiccups. I also got the TV service
about 6 months ago. It's OK, the DVR isn't as good as the DirecTivo I
was running, but I've saved money over all. There are more HD channels
and I do belive they are clearer than DirecTV. So I'm happy.
