Well, you could extend this idea well beyond the music recording
industry. If you got a consulting gig, writing software for company X,
you could refuse payment. Your software development knowlege came from
somewhere else, be it books, or college, or the internet. If it
weren't for all of those influences, you never would have had the skills
to complete the project. So if you were really honest you would say,
"hey no thanks, I'm only standing on the shoulders of giants."
