I forgot to mention, you may have better luck after downloading the latest
version of wine. New releases come out every few weeks so the one provided
by the Ubuntu repositories is somewhat out of date.

The wine project has an Ubuntu repository available. You can add it like so:

sudo wget http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/sources.list.d/feisty.list -O
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list

One more thing, _never_ run wine or any of its components (winecfg, regedit,
uninstaller) while logged in as root or with sudo. Doing so would run the
Windows application with full root privileges and the application would be
able to make changes to any part of the filesystem. Wine is meant to be run
by a regular user account.
