I don't use Linux.com much (sorry), but the only suggestion I'd make is
to tweak your CSS to remove the underlines from links. This is a matter
of taste, but I personally don't care for underlines on links.

I *like* the old layout. Clean and usable. (Not that the new layout is bad.)

One other point. I didn't dive heavily into the site, but LWN makes this
mistake constantly. Lines too long. When a line gets too long on screen,
it gets hard to read, and hard to follow to the end of the line. I don't
know a good limit, but I'd guess any line should be 480 to 640 pixels,
the shorter the better.
