More information on my problem with the pcmcia issues. I have a IBM T-42.
All of the distros appear to work just fine on that machine. they find the card
and bring up the network, so it appears to be something with the pcmcia
part, not sure if it is the age of the pcmcia chip... The machine is a toshiba
490XCDT, here is what I have found out about the pcmcia system on this
machine:
2 x PC Card Type II or 1 x PC Card Type III, ZV port & CardBus support,

Here is the data on the pcmcia system on the IBM T42
# Conforms to the PC Card Standard 95
# The Type III slot can accommodate two Type I, two Type II, or one
Type III PC card
# Both 16-bit and 32-bit cards are supported.
# PCMCIA 2.1 standard.

Now if I can just sort this out and figure out what I have to do to get
the thing to work reliably.

out and having to identify your bits and pieces in the midst of torn
and twisted metal."
