[SLUG] Tired of having no sound

I don't post much, but find this group interesting to read while trying
to learn some new things. Now I could use some help.

I have tried looking all over the internet to find the reason why I do
not have sound and cant find anything. Someone suggested "switch to the
'default' virtual device in the ALSA output plugin." But they never
elaborated as to where this 'default' is that needs to be set. And if it
needs to be set to the 'default' then I have no idea how it got off of
the 'default' in the first place.

So hopefully someone here might be able to help.

Prior to upgrading from Ubuntu Fiesty to Gutsy I had sound. After the
upgrade I only get sound when the Ubuntu login screen comes up. After
that, nothing.

I am not sure how much this will help, but here is some info on what I have:
